Though initially content, Gilda soon grew melancholic, yearning for the snowy landscapes of her homeland. In an effort to restore her happiness, the king, guided by a mysterious woman's advice, planted thousands of almond trees across the valley. When these trees blossomed, covering the land in white petals, Gilda's joy returned, and the Algarve became known as the kingdom of almond blossoms, preserving this timeless legend.
