Discovery sets are one of my favorite ways to truly understand a perfume brand. Instead of committing to a full bottle based on hype or notes alone, you get the chance to live with several fragrances, compare them, and figure out what really works for you. Today, I’m sharing my experience with the Jacques Fath Discovery Set, a French perfume collection that surprised me in more ways than one.
Jacques Fath is a historic French fashion house that has been steadily building a modern perfume identity. Their discovery set includes 12 fragrances, covering a wide range of styles—from green and bitter to sweet, fruity, woody, and spicy. It’s an affordable way to explore the brand, especially if you enjoy variety and experimentation.
I approached this set with curiosity and an open mind, and after testing every scent, I definitely walked away with clear favorites.
First Impressions of the Discovery Set
The discovery set itself feels thoughtfully put together. Each fragrance comes with its own card, listing the notes and name, which makes the experience feel more intentional and educational. This is the kind of set that encourages slow testing rather than rushed sniffing.
What stood out to me immediately is how diverse the collection is. These perfumes don’t all follow one “house DNA,” which I personally appreciate. Some scents felt very classic and French, others surprisingly modern, and a few were bold enough to spark strong opinions.
Scent-by-Scent Overview

Gris Extrait
This one was a challenge for me. It opens very bitter, green, and sharp, with notes like hazelnut, bitter orange, and iris. On my skin, the bitterness dominated everything else. It feels very artistic and niche, but unfortunately, not something I’d enjoy wearing.
Rosso Epicurio
“Rosso” means red, and this fragrance definitely leans into that idea. It’s sweet, fruity, and loud, almost like fruit punch or candy. Black currant, rose, and orange blossom are noticeable, but the sweetness comes off a bit synthetic to my nose. Fun, but not my style.
Curacao Bay
This is the fragrance that originally caught my attention—and it did not disappoint. Curacao Bay is warm, tropical, and comforting. I get coconut, peach, vanilla, and a soft marine touch that makes it feel beachy without being salty. This was easily my number one favorite in the entire set. If you love tropical scents that feel cozy rather than sunscreen-like, this one is worth exploring.
Lilac Exquis
True to its name, this fragrance smells like real lilac blossoms. It’s green, fresh, and very natural, almost like standing next to a spring bouquet. While it’s beautifully done, it leans a bit too sharp and floral for my personal taste. Still, lilac lovers will appreciate its realism.
Red Shoes
One of the standouts of the collection. Red Shoes feels playful, sparkly, and modern. There’s a champagne-like effervescence, with grapefruit, black currant, ginger, and soft woods underneath. It’s fun without being childish and unique without being strange. This ended up being my second favorite.
L’Échappée Belle
This fragrance is sweet, whimsical, and almost candy-like. Think Sweet Tarts with a boozy twist. Heliotrope and iris add a powdery softness, while whiskey sneaks in unexpectedly. It’s interesting, but the sweetness might be too much if you prefer more subtle scents.
Green
As the name suggests, this is a very green and aromatic fragrance. Citrus, neroli, basil, and tarragon dominate the composition. It smells clean, fresh, and herbal—almost like a luxury soap or spa scent. While pleasant, it’s not something I’d want to wear as a personal signature.
L’Or Essentiel
This one feels grounding and elegant. Vetiver is the star, supported by ginger, juniper berries, patchouli, and a hint of tobacco. It’s earthy, woody, and calm. If you enjoy vetiver-heavy fragrances with a classic feel, this could be a quiet favorite.
Éclat de Bois
Powdery, floral, and lightly woody. Mimosa and broom give it a soft, yellow-floral sweetness. It’s gentle and polite, but didn’t leave a strong impression on me.
Automne Storm
This fragrance truly surprised me—in the best way. Automne Storm is cozy, milky, and spicy, with tonka bean, sandalwood, pink pepper, and coriander. There’s a comforting chai-like warmth that reminds me of fragrances like Remember Me by Jovoy or Milk by Commodity, but with more depth and spice. This was my third favorite.
Belle d’Ambre
A classic amber-forward fragrance. Rich, resinous, and warm, with hints of iris and leather. It smells like traditional amber oil and will appeal strongly to amber lovers.
Velvet Wood
Woody and spicy with a noticeable whiskey note. Unfortunately, the whiskey is quite prominent on my skin, and since I don’t enjoy boozy scents, this one wasn’t for me. Still, if you like dark, woody fragrances with an edge, it may appeal to you.
Top 3 Favorites

After testing all 12 fragrances, my personal top three are:
-
Curacao Bay – Tropical, peachy, creamy, and comforting
-
Red Shoes – Sparkling, fruity, and fun
-
Automne Storm – Cozy, milky, spicy, and perfect for cooler weather
Final Thoughts

The Jacques Fath Discovery Set is absolutely worth trying if you enjoy exploring different perfume styles. Not every scent was a hit for me, but that’s actually a good thing—it shows how broad and creative this collection is. You’re likely to find at least one or two fragrances that truly click with you.
If you love discovery sets and enjoy forming your own perfume opinions, this one is a fun and rewarding journey.
