Fragrance Friday Review: Kitten Fur, Cupcake & Pure Soap by The Library of Fragrance

Daniil Savishin

Fragrance Friday is back, and this time the experience feels a little extra special. Broadcasting all the way from Antwerp, Belgium, I spent some quality time testing three randomly selected fragrances from The Library of Fragrance: Kitten Fur, Cupcake, and Pure Soap. These scents may sound simple on paper, but as always, fragrance has a funny way of surprising you once it hits skin.

The Library of Fragrance is known for doing something very specific—and doing it very well. Instead of complex pyramids and mysterious names, they focus on literal, emotion-driven scents. Some are comforting, some are playful, and others are unexpectedly wearable.

Let’s dive in.

Kitten Fur – Soft, Sweet, and Surprisingly Cozy

Library

Starting with Kitten Fur, I’ll admit I didn’t quite know what to expect. When you hear a name like that, your imagination runs wild. Warm? Clean? Musky? Animalic? None of the above really apply here.

Instead, Kitten Fur opens with a soft sweetness that instantly feels comforting. It reminds me of childhood sweets—candy floss, gentle vanilla sugar, and that creamy warmth you associate with treats from years ago. There’s something playful here, but also very nostalgic.

As it settles, subtle notes begin to show themselves. I get hints of vanilla, a touch of strawberry, and even something slightly spicy—almost like clove. There’s a custard-like quality too, creamy and smooth, which makes the whole scent feel like a warm hug. If I smelled this without knowing the name, “custard” would honestly be the first word that comes to mind.

Emotionally, Kitten Fur feels happy and innocent. It doesn’t shout, it doesn’t demand attention, and it definitely doesn’t try to be edgy. It’s just… nice. Soft. Comforting. Very easy to wear. I’d say it’s completely unisex and works best for casual moments—lazy afternoons, cozy evenings, or days when you want something gentle and familiar.

It’s not a bold fragrance, but that’s kind of the point. Kitten Fur is all about comfort over character, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Cupcake – Exactly What It Promises

Next up is Cupcake, and this one does not mess around. From the very first spray, it smells exactly like the name suggests. No metaphors needed. No imagination required. This is cupcake, straight out of the oven.

The opening is sweet, warm, and bakery-like. Think freshly baked sponge cake with sugary icing on top. There’s a buttery, cake-batter feel that comes through quickly, followed by a soft vanilla frosting note that makes the whole scent feel deliciously indulgent.

If you’ve ever walked past a bakery and instantly felt hungry, that’s the vibe here. The Library of Fragrance absolutely nails these literal gourmands, and Cupcake is a perfect example of that talent.

On skin, it stays very true to itself. It doesn’t morph much, and it doesn’t try to become something else. It’s sweet from start to finish. For me personally, it leans a bit too sugary to wear as a daily fragrance, but I can easily imagine others loving it.

Cupcake would be perfect for gourmand lovers, layering experiments, or even as a room or linen scent. If you love warm, edible fragrances that make people smile, this one is going to hit the spot.

Pure Soap – Clean, Floral, and Unexpected

Library

Last but definitely not least, we have Pure Soap—and this one ended up being the biggest surprise of the day.

“Soap” sounds simple, right? Almost boring. But Pure Soap is anything but. The first sniff caught me completely off guard. Instead of a classic clean soap smell, I initially picked up something that felt floral and fruity, almost like rose water or even a ripe mango.

Yes, mango. There’s a juicy, sweet edge here that gives the scent warmth and personality. Once you know the name, your brain clicks into place and recognizes the clean, soapy character underneath. But if you smelled this blind, you might never guess it was called Pure Soap.

As it develops, the fragrance becomes beautifully balanced. It’s clean without being sharp, floral without being powdery, and sweet without turning sugary. There’s something about it that reminds me of wet gardens, fresh blossoms, and warm air after rain.

This is the kind of scent that feels effortlessly wearable. Perfect for everyday use, warm weather, or moments when you want to smell fresh but still interesting. It feels modern, light, and quietly elegant.

Out of all three fragrances, Pure Soap surprised me the most—and quickly became my favorite.

Overall Thoughts & Final Ranking

Library

Testing these three fragrances back-to-back was a fun reminder of how different scent experiences can be, even within the same brand.

  • Kitten Fur delivered soft comfort and nostalgia

  • Cupcake was literal, sweet, and indulgent

  • Pure Soap brought freshness, florals, and unexpected depth

If I had to rank them based on personal enjoyment:

  1. Pure Soap

  2. Kitten Fur

  3. Cupcake

That said, all three have their place, and none of them feel poorly executed. It really comes down to mood and personal taste.

If you enjoy fragrances that tell a clear story and spark emotion, The Library of Fragrance is absolutely worth exploring.

Have you tried any of these scents, or do you have a favorite from The Library of Fragrance? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Until next time—happy sniffing, and see you on the next Fragrance Friday.
