Arethusa was conceived as one of the most carefree and joyful stops in Tiziana Terenzi’s olfactory journey, drawing its inspiration from Sicily and, more specifically, Syracuse and the island of Ortigia. The fragrance reflects a Mediterranean landscape where ripe fruits, aromatic vegetation, flowers, spices and the sea meet under the warmth of a summer night. Its name refers to Arethusa from Greek mythology, whose story remains associated with the famous freshwater spring on Ortigia. The house presents the composition as an extrait that captures the colour, nature and emotional character of Sicily rather than simply reproducing a conventional marine scent.

 

Olfactory Notes

Upon the first spray, Arethusa opens with a vivid Mediterranean combination of juicy Orange, spicy Ginger, Plum, Fig and Pink Grapefruit, sharpened by the aromatic character of Sagebrush. The opening feels fruity and fresh, but its sweetness is immediately balanced by herbs and citrus.

As the fragrance develops, the composition becomes richer and more floral. Red Sandalwood and Sandalwood add warmth around Jasmine, Rose, Orange Blossom and Heather, while Saffron contributes a dry spicy accent. Pomegranate and Grapefruit maintain the juicy brightness of the opening and keep the floral heart from becoming overly dense.

Finally, Arethusa settles into a distinctly Mediterranean base. Patchouli and Vetiver meet Sweetgum and leathery nuances, while Arbutus, Marine Cistus, Salt and White Sand create a dry coastal impression. Oleander and Broom extend the floral character into the drydown, giving the fragrance a salty, woody and aromatic finish rather than a purely fresh aquatic one.
