Tyrannosaurus Rex by Zoologist: powerful smoky-woody fragrance

When developing Tyrannosaurus Rex, perfumer Antonio Gardoni drew inspiration from the turbulent landscapes of the Cretaceous period—a prehistoric world of immense forests, abundant flora, lightning strikes and raging wildfires. Above this scorched environment stands the tyrannosaur, an apex predator whose reign ends only when a catastrophic fire appears in the sky. Zoologist interprets this dramatic scene through primitive woods, dense florals, smoke and charred materials. Metallic nuances suggest the predator’s bloodlust, while burning resins and leather evoke an ancient landscape consumed by fire. The result is a deliberately intense composition that feels menacing, fascinating and defiantly unconventional.

 

Olfactory Notes

Upon the first spray, Black Pepper, Laurel Leaf and Nutmeg create an explosive wave of dry, aromatic spice. Fir adds a sharp coniferous character, while Bergamot and Neroli provide brief flashes of citrus freshness. The opening is forceful and volatile, suggesting dense prehistoric vegetation exposed to smoke, heat and approaching fire.

As the fragrance develops, Champaca, Geranium, Jasmine, Osmanthus, Rose and Ylang Ylang form a rich floral heart. These flowers are not presented as delicate or conventionally romantic. Instead, they feel humid, overgrown and slightly metallic, creating the impression of ancient flora flourishing beneath an oppressive sky.

Finally, Tyrannosaurus Rex settles into a dark foundation of Resins, Cade, Cedar, Frankincense, Leather, Patchouli and Sandalwood. Cade and incense create a distinctly smoky, charred effect, while civet, leather and patchouli introduce animalic and earthy depth. Vanilla provides restrained warmth beneath the dense woods and resins, but never turns the fragrance into a conventional sweet composition.
